The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) has recently imposed a ban on the use of the Hastings tollgate alternative route and Rogbangba community road as a bye-pass route by all vehicles beyond the maximum net weight of 20tonnes or axle weight exceeding 11tonnes. SLRA said that it banned both routes owing to their deplorable conditions, and the collapse of Hastings Bridge along old Freetown-Waterloo Road. Some drivers usually use these routes to evade the Hastings tollgate because the tariffs are considered exorbitant, especially for heavy duty vehicles that ply the route without cargoes.
